Uttar Pradesh partners with BVG India to develop eco-tourism hub at Dudhwa National Park
A new eco-tourism destination has taken shape near Dudhwa National Park. The tourism infrastructure is being developed and maintained at Chandan Chowki in Lakhimpur Kheri district through a partnership between BVG India and the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board (UPETDB).
As part of this initiative, BVG India is developing the ‘BVG India Resort’, scheduled to be fully operational by March 2026. Spread across five acres, the eco-friendly resort anchors the Chandan Chowki eco-tourism project and is envisioned as a nature-led retreat centred on wellness and local culture.
Developed with an emphasis on low-impact and environmentally sensitive design, ‘BVG India Resort’ blends into its forest surroundings while offering modern hospitality amenities. The resort features multiple accommodation options, supported by recreational facilities, food and beverage services and spaces for small conferences and social gatherings, catering to leisure travellers, wildlife enthusiasts, families and corporate groups.
Under the partnership, BVG India is responsible for planning, designing, developing, financing and operating the accommodation and wellness centre, i.e., BVG India Resort. This includes operation and maintenance of accommodation, facilities and allied services, procuring all necessary approvals and permissions to ensure compliance and marketing and promotional activity planning. The focus of the project is to promote a fresh experience to tourists at a location that would offer a wholesome package comprising of wellness and wildlife.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Hanmantrao Gaikwad, Chairman, BVG India said, “BVG India Resort is an expression of our belief that tourism must respect nature and create opportunities for local communities. Through this project near Dudhwa, we have sought to create a destination that allows visitors to experience the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness, while preserving what makes it unique. This is a long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism in Uttar Pradesh.”
Community engagement is also one of the key elements of the development. The destination includes a dedicated space for Tharu tribal handicrafts, enabling local artisans—particularly women—to showcase traditional skills and benefit directly from tourism activity. Organic horticulture areas within the resort further enhance the visitor experience by offering insight into rural life and sustainable practices.
Dudhwa National Park, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Terai region along the Indo-Nepal border, is internationally recognised for its biodiversity. It is one of the few protected areas in India where Bengal tigers and one-horned rhinoceroses coexist in the wild, along with endangered swamp deer and a rich variety of bird species. The park is part of Project Tiger, making the region a significant destination for wildlife conservation and eco-tourism.
With the development of ‘BVG India Resort’ at Chandan Chowki, Uttar Pradesh continues to strengthen its eco-tourism offerings, demonstrating how conservation, community participation and quality tourism infrastructure can come together in sensitive natural landscapes.
